The Clooper Guide To Shoreditch

Shoreditch Stands As A Powerhouse Of Culture, Cuisine and Cocktails With Its Vibrant Community, Delectable Street Food, And Artistically Curated Streets.

Shoreditch is an ode to the vibrant, jewel of a district mere minutes away from London Liverpool Street. Whether you’re after vibrant street food, bustling nightlife, trendy art venues or simply a pleasant cafe lunch: Shoreditch is the place for you.

BRICK LANE

Brick Lane is, we’d say, what the large majority of folks think of when they think of Shoreditch. Rightfully so, as well! It has culture, cuisine and cocktails galore – and that’s just naming a few of the treats this street has in store for you.

Currently, it is home to a large majority of migrant cultures, primarily many of London’s Bangladeshi community. Tantalising food of varying backgrounds is readily available, freshly cooked, authentic and absolutely made with love.

Whilst Brick Lane has always had a reputation for its divine cuisine, its more recent reputation is for its trendy bars and art installations. Gastropubs, pop up art shows, cocktail bars and much more line the street. This rich tapestry of things to do makes for an unforgettable experience every time you walk down Brick Lane. If you live in Shoreditch, it’ll be right outside your door, and we’ll for sure be jealous!

If we had to recommend only one place in Brick Lane, it would be Brick Lane Beigel Bake. Hands down. It’s 24 hours, renowned for having the best beigels around, and has been going strong since 1974. It’s worth noting that this bakery is so popular: it’s often sporting queues out the door – so plan accordingly.

Area Tip: The infamously illusive Jack The Ripper was known to operate in and around Shoreditch and Brick Lane. If you’ve a penchant for spooky stories and London lore: sign yourself up for a Ripper walk! On top of their close proximity, it’s so easy to find the route, host and cost that works for you. We found five separate tours all near Shoreditch on the very first page of Google alone!

BOXPARK SHOREDITCH

Another staple of Shoreditch, BOXPARK is the world’s first-ever pop-up mall. 60 shipping containers were renovated and used as restaurants, bars and shops to make BOXPARK. It is truly a unique, and each time unforgettable, shopping or entertainment experience. It is a go-to for Shoreditch nightlife and is home to many small bars and even club-like experiences.

BOXPARK also often hosts events varying from comedy shows to poetry nights. It truly has something for everyone and you can easily keep up to date on new events here on their website.

A HUB OF ARTISTIC TALENT

Shoreditch is also well known for the street art that lines the architecture. It’s so expansive that there are many tour guides around, trained to show you the rarest and hardest to find pieces of graffiti work. I myself visited a few years ago and was shown to the smallest exhibition: the artist had stepped on some chewing gum, and then painted over it, into its shape! The result is an intricate and impressive art piece that many miss. I’ve lived in London all of my life and only found out through a tour, so I would highly recommend them.

It also houses many art galleries and pop up art shows from many independent artists. You’ll also find many local museums, such as ‘Dennis Severs House’, as well as architectural beauties like Wesley’s Chapel. Which is also itself home to a small museum! Shoreditch is full of surprises and colourful nooks and crannies. You’ll never tire of your surroundings, of that I’m certain.

Not only this, but Shoreditch was also the home to the first two London theatres. It has kept this close to its heart and is still famous for its theatre productions: particularly in Shoreditch Town Hall. It even hosts celebrity talks, music gigs, and workshops.

If you’re looking for a place to live that will constantly feed that artistic inspiration, look no further than Shoreditch.

MARKETS, MARKETS, MARKETS!

So many markets! Hoxton Market, Spitalfields Market, Columbia Road Market, Brick Lane .. it just goes on and on! Through all of the local markets, you can find a diversity of food, vintage stalls, jewellery, art and even flowers and plants. Particularly in Columbia Road Flower Market.

Spitalfields market is by far one of the most famous markets. With varying popups and stalls as well as big-name brands such as Wagamamas and a nearby All Saints. It truly has everything you could ask for and is a day out in itself. Spitalfields has been going strong since the 1800s and, like many other areas of Shoreditch, is thriving with history and culture. Take a moment to read the inscriptions on the statues and I’m sure you’ll thank me for it.

Living in Shoreditch means you have constant access to almost everything you could want and need. Liverpool Street within walking distance, a wide array of available venues and cuisine, a gorgeously diverse and friendly community and to top it all off – the best darn beigels in London.
