A Simple Guide For Tradespeople Working During COVID

How are tradespeople working during COVID or supposed to? Is it expected that they will work at all because of the pandemic? It’s a strange time when everyone needs to stay safe; at the very least, by putting each other’s safety first, especially those who work in other people’s homes.

Tradespeople are working during COVID because, due to the nature of their job, they are unable to work from home, as many other people around the world are doing right now. And, because they are unable to work from home, how can they work during COVID periods without becoming infected or exposing others?

To begin, you should be aware that you can limit the spread by implementing’simple’ practices such as:

• Washing your hands and cleaning surfaces at intervals
• Practice safe distancing/keeping two metres apart if you must come into contact with people 
• Work side-by-side or back-to-back instead of face-to-face 
• Wear face masks/face shields where possible

However, the bar is set slightly differently for people offering services that can’t be done remotely. The government agrees that if you can’t work from home which applies to tradespeople, you may need to follow a ‘covid-secure’ process.

Consider the following relevant rules to guide you as a tradesperson:

• If you have coronavirus symptoms or are positive for coronavirus, do not enter someone’s home.
• Don’t enter the home of anyone who is self-isolating or has tested positive for coronavirus. 
• You should maintain social distance, wash your hands regularly and wipe down surfaces, door handles, and other items touched while working. 
• You also should consider notifying people before arriving to work in their homes to minimize contact as much as possible.
